There are literally hundreds of major governmental agencies - each with hundreds of responsiblities. A wise leader understands the
importance of these functions, and allocates resources appropriately. Many challenges in Modern Command begin with a failure or problem in
one of these agencies. Players must make dificult budget decisions,
These agencies were pulled from the United States model of governmental organization. Whilst other countries may have different names for
their agencies (or ministries), the functions are generally equivilant.
Transportation
- promotes safety in all forms of transportation
- sets and enforces safety standards
- for the design and manufacture of transportation equipment
- operation of airplanes, trains, and trucks
- enforces safety standards for the transportation of chemicals and other hazardous materials
- grants money to cities to help provide and improve mass transportation facilities
- establishes programs to help reduce the number of highway deaths and injuries
- Finances Amtrak, the nations passenger rail system
- grants licenses for the launching of nongovernment satellites and for commercial launch facilities
- conducts studies to solve transportation problems
- ensure transportation systems comply with the nations environmental protection laws
- research and development programs in cooperation with private industry and universities
Education
- providing leadership in addressing critical issues in American education
- assisting in the collection of ideas for the improvement of education
- helping students pay for their education beyond high school
- helping communities and schools meet the needs of their students
- preparing students for employment
- working to ensure equal educational opportunities for all Americans
- administers programs to improve the skills of students who are not fluent in English
- collects data--and oversees research--on the nations schools and informs educators and the general public of its
findings
Agricultural
- Safeguard the food supply by inspecting meat and poultry in slaughtering and processing plants
- Grades meat, poultry, and dairy products to indicate their quality
- Establishes standards of quality for grain exported
- administers a nationwide system of grain inspection
- protect animals and plants from pests and disease
- runs food assistance programs to fight the problems of hunger and to improve the diet of Americans
- Food Stamp Program, which helps needy people purchase food
- National School Lunch Program
- Foods for pregnant women and for nursing mothers and their infants
- research deals with such topics as:

- enforces legal standards for the funding and operation of private pension and welfare plans
- oversees the nations unemployment insurance programs
- reduces unemployment by providing job training for disadvantaged young men and women
- helps people find jobs through programs administered by one of its agencies
- gives local governments funds to establish and maintain their own job training programs
- develops apprenticeship standards for the training of skilled workers
- requires businesses doing work for the government to maintain nondiscriminatory hiring and employment practices

- receives all money paid to the government
- serves as custodian of the governments revenues

Homeland security
- responsible for the security of the nations borders and transportation systems
- seeks to ensure that the nation is prepared for terrorist attacks and natural disasters

- analyzes intelligence information, evaluates risks, issues warnings, and takes preventive action
- oversees the departments budget, management, and personnel matters

Veteran affairs
